On January 15, 2023, China officially announced the name of its lunar space exploration mascot — Tu Xing Xing (兔星星), meaning "Rabbit Star," heralded to the world by China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson.

The name "To Star" echoes the Chinese word for rabbit (兔 / tù) — marrying 5,000 years of lunar myth with the ambitions of a 21st century space superpower.

Tu Xing Xing descends from the Jade Rabbit (玉兔) — legendary companion of moon goddess Chang'e. Now it lives on Ethereum.
